Sweet Pea time

Posted on

single pink sweet peaSweet Peas are summer.

One of our oldest garden favourites first cultivated in 1700 and many cultivars develped since producing so many colours and beautiful scents. February is the traditional time to germinate from seed. Why bother with seeds? Mainly because of the wide variety available on line and they are very easy to germinate, and easy to grow but time consuming. Sweet Peas  are fussy, needing very rich soil, essential and regularly weekly, twice weekly dead heading; tendrils removed to prevent the plants descending into a tangle and very regular watering if the summer proves to be dry.

The rewards are a regular supply of lovely cut flowers throughout the summer.
